Falling From the Sky

Every year thousands of songbirds make the 18-hour crossing of the Gulf of Mexico. If the weather is stormy, they drop exhausted at the first sight of land to eat, drink and refuel. Flashes of brilliant color enter the wooded areas of Galveston. The birds are so exhausted they hardly notice the humans waiting to see the nature spectacular. I was lucky to see and record the event this year. Here is my first songbird painting from the Songbird Series. This is a Hooded Warbler who was quite a ham. “Long Migration” Oil on Linen 8 x10
